About tldr.games
tldr.games is a Melbourne-based curation of short thoughts and news about videogames.
In 2014 I started rating and writing about games using the Steam Curator platform, which only allows ‘reviews’ with a very short character limit. It also doesn't let you score games, only allowing three ratings. I've never liked the idea of numerically scoring games and find most lengthy reviews often reveal too much, so both of these restrictions aligned to my preferred approach. Not being able to log games that aren't on Steam was a problem, though.
So at some point, and some several-hundred games logged, I wanted to make more of a thing of it all. Fast forward, tldr.games launched in 2023. Thanks for visiting.
If you like numbers, the corpus breaks the whole library down — every rating, genre, theme and colour.
The ratings
- Games which I didn't particularly enjoy, or were let down in some other way.
- Games which I neither liked nor disliked.
- You get the idea.
Rating games — no matter the scale or system — is hard. There's a level of guilt associated with logging a game “Disliked”, because finishing and releasing any videogame is an accomplishment to be proud of. In any case, these ratings are just one person's opinion, and what do I know?

Game metadata such as release date, genres, developer, etc. are provided courtesy of the IGDB API, which is a really cool platform. Shoutout IGDB.
Josh is an Australian developer living in Berlin, and one of my oldest friends. They singlehandedly coded the original site, and are ridiculously good at what they do.
Juan is a super cool designer & illustrator who provided the sick soulslike sticker, so they clearly have great taste in games too.
Rezuaq made the incredible macro generator code that's in use for our FromSoftware-style 404 page. They go way beyond what's used here, so check 'em out.
About the author
Michael “lmk” Winkler is a visual designer, videographer and obviously videogame enthusiast. This is him, now writing in third-person. He has played videogames since he was a kid, and still tries to play as many as he can. Aside from games; he likes pigeons and dislikes when a soda can ring is so rigid that you need to apply lots of pressure with your nail to open it.
