Cologne brought the heavy hitters: Borderlands 4, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Path of Exile 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds. ARC Raiders clawed back some hype, and there was room for the likes of Monument Valley 3 too. Here's the rundown.

Lineup

Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4

Gearbox have announced Borderlands 4, surely hoping to recover from the recent movie flop. Slated for a 2025 release, the teaser doesn't reveal much, and after Borderlands 3, most - including myself - are cautious to be too optimistic.

REANIMAL

REANIMAL

REANIMAL from Tarsier Studios (Little Nightmares), follows two siblings in an expectedly nightmarish world, this time with co-op play. Looks cool. No release date yet.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has a release date: 9 December 2024, for PC, Xbox... and with a PS5 release set for Q2 2025. This marks a shift from Xbox exclusivity, aligning with the company’s broader strategy to bring first-party games to other platforms. Oof.

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders

ARC Raiders, the upcoming third-person PvPvE extraction shooter developed by Embark Studios, has a release date - 2025. It's something I guess. A public Tech Test will run from October 24 to 27. Love the visual design in this game, hope it's fun.

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 is set to enter early access on November 15, 2024! Although no fixed release date for the full game has been announced, Grinding Gear Games is reportedly focused on refining the experience through closed beta testing before committing to a final launch date.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

We have some actual Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 gameplay! The trailer hints at visceral swordfights, crossbows battles, and scenic rides through the war-torn countryside. Set for release on February 11, 2025, with a deeper look at gameplay coming soon.

Hela

Hela

Hela, announced by Windup and Knights Peak, promises a whimsical adventure as rodents equipped with magical backpacks - cool. No release date.

Little Nightmares III

Little Nightmares III

Little Nightmares III introduces new protagonists, Low and Alone, each equipped with unique abilities - a bow and a wrench, respectively. The game also features online co-op for the first time, letting players team up or play solo with an AI companion. Interestingly, it's developed by Supermassive Games, taking over from Tarsier Studios. No release date yet.

Begone Beast

Begone Beast

Studio Tandemi revealed a new trailer for Begone Beast, a horror hack-and-slash for 1-4 players, set for Early Access in February 2025. Looks fun.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds revealed new monsters and a desert-themed hub in its latest trailer. The Lala Barina, a spider-like creature, and Rey Dau, an electric wyvern, were introduced - and cooking well-done steaks returns! Set for release in 2025.

Monument Valley 3

Monument Valley 3

Monument Valley 3 continues the series’ tradition of stunning visuals and hopefully clever puzzles. Set to release on December 10 as a Netflix Games exclusive (sadface).

Floatopia

Floatopia

NetEase has announced Floatopia, a new life sim reminiscent of Animal Crossing, is set for a 2025 release. It features what you'd expect: island decoration, fishing, farming... but also a storyline involving superpowers and uncovering the universe’s mysteries. Floatopia is designed as a free-to-play experience with gacha mechanics, and pre-registrations are now open.

Revenge of the Savage Planet

Revenge of the Savage Planet

Revenge of The Savage Planet, the sequel to The Savage Planet, shifts to a third-person perspective and features four new worlds, cross-platform and couch co-op play. I dug the first one and always thought it was kinda overlooked, so I'm pretty keen! 2025 release.

Herdling

Herdling

This looks sick. Herdling, developed by Okomotive and published by Panic, is an adventure game where you guide mystical creatures called Calicorns across atmospheric landscapes. Focused on companionship and exploration, it's set to release in 2025. More details will be revealed at PAX West and Panic’s showcase on August 27.

Secret Level

Secret Level

Yo! What?! Secret Level, an animated anthology series from Blur Studio (Love, Death, and Robots), is coming to Amazon Prime Video on December 10. The series will feature 15 episodes, each telling new stories inspired by games including God of War, Sifu, Warhammer 40K, Unreal Tournament, Dungeons & Dragons, The Outer Worlds, Pac-Man, Armored Core (with Keanu??), Mega Man, Spelunky and more. Adaptations are fraught with danger, but I'm very keen!

SPINE

SPINE

Nekki revealed a new trailer for SPINE, featuring its 'gun fu' combat, parkour, and cyberpunk setting. The trailer introduces boss fights, a soundtrack by Le Castle Vania, and dynamic combat seemingly aiming for "Sifu, but guns" (not a bad thing!). Set to release in late 2025.
