gamescom Opening Night Live 2026
gamescom 2026 kicked off with a two hour Opening Night Live from Cologne, mixing world premieres, extended gameplay looks and release date confirmations across AAA and indie.
Lineup

The show opened with HoYoverse revealing something that kinda looks nothing like HoYoverse (though does look a fair bit like Elden Ring at times...). Nodusfall is a co-op dark fantasy action RPG built in Unreal 5, ditching the anime styling entirely, casting players as Weavers hunting mythic beasts in a world where divine order has collapsed. No platforms, no date, and nothing on how it's monetised, which is the part I'd want answered first.

Ananta finally has a date, January 15, 2027, on PS5, PC and mobile. The trailer introduced Chongxiao, a second city drawing on Shanghai, Hangzhou and Tokyo. It stays free to play with no character gacha, everyone unlocked through the story and monetisation limited to cosmetics.

Crimson Desert is already getting an enhanced version, adding new cutscenes and dialogue aimed at smoothing out the story, widely agreed to be its weakest part. It's free for existing owners, and the game is 20% off until September 9, its first ever discount. Announcing an enhanced edition this soon after launch is a fairly loud admission.

HoYoverse's cosy life sim has a Winter 2026 launch window and one final beta before release. You're a Planet Tender rather than a farmer, terraforming and decorating a planet of your own, fishing and cooking with fuzzy Neighbors, then sailing the Starsea to visit other people's. Free to play across PC, iOS and Android with cross-platform saves.

After nearly two years in early access, GGG has locked in December 11 for the POE2 1.0 launch. It goes fully free to play that day, completes the campaign with the remaining acts, and adds swords through the new Duelist class. PS5, Xbox Series and PC all at once. Long time coming.

The 1999 strategy classic is getting a full ground-up rebuild in Snowdrop, trading the fixed isometric view for a 3D world with a free camera. Ubisoft's Chengdu and Shanghai studios are handling it, with all nine factions, the original campaigns and both expansions stitched together with a new prologue, out in 2027.

The cyber-noir shooter got its first real gameplay showing and a confirmed 2027 window. You play Grey Harker, a retired soldier working his way through Port Desire, a vertical city built on neon sleaze rather than regulation, with the trailer flicking between hacking, stealth and simply kicking people in the head. Neon Giant say the whole thing is being built by 24 people. The Ascent was cool, so I'm curious how far they push it.

Frictional's SOMA successor got its first proper gameplay. You play Aditi Amani exploring Samsara, a repurposed hotel on the moon, solving puzzles and making moral calls about a series of Experiments. Stellan Skarsgård leads the voice cast. It slipped from 2026 to 2027, but this looks worth it.

Daniel Mullins' sequel finally has a gameplay trailer and a date, April 27, 2027, on PC. It is predictably deranged, flipping between 2D, 3D and live action footage in ways that make it hard to describe and probably harder to spoil. Instabuy.

An Eastern dark fantasy action RPG from Krafton and Korean studio Boundary, a team drawn largely from the developers behind Undecember. It's a top-down hack and slash in the obvious Diablo mould, but swaps gothic cathedrals for Buddhist samsara cosmology, with six seekers, relentless hordes and temple boss arenas across the island of Taegwido. No date, though Krafton has said they're targeting 2027.
