PlayStation is done with physical media

Sony has confirmed it will stop producing physical game discs for all new PlayStation releases starting January 2028. The shift to an all-digital ecosystem is being pitched as a response to consumer trends, effectively mirroring Rockstar's recent decision to ship Grand Theft Auto VI in retail boxes containing only download codes. Given Sony recently wiped hundreds of paid digital movies from user libraries, framing this as a win for convenience rather than total platform control is incredibly bleak.
